Origins

The tulip is the national flower of Iran and Turkey, and tulip motifs feature prominently in persian and Turkish folk arts. The Tulips have a long and interesting history. Grown for many years in Turkish gardens and used on Turkish ceramics. Tulips were introduced to Europe in the mid-16th century. Tulipa, the tulip's Latin name, is the Latinized version of tulipam or tulbend, which means "turban" in Turkey and was generally used to describe the tulips' shapes. While the Dutch dominate the world of the Tulip market and bulb production, America has several growers that have become important suppliers of the flower.
